TenFigures

I was thinking about what makes a good blog and what people would like to read after a hectic day. And also, I always had this nature to preach.

Fortunately I went through a lot which made me wiser in the entrepreneurial field and what makes a good entrepreneur among a lot of other stuff.

So, I started this blog about a week ago.
Its about all the things I’ve learned, except that its condensed to 10 points.
The topics obviously vary.

So, unlike this personal blog I have to rant if I want to, go check out the new, better blog I’ve set up if you want to learn a thing or two.

Here’s the link. http://www.tenfigures.wordpress.com

Left Behind

A young boy sat next to an old man in a secluded park. Tears streamed down the boy’s eyes and didn’t care for the old man next to him.

The old man was clearly concerned and turned to the boy, inquiring what was wrong. The boy looked back with a calm face and yet, very sad and said,

“It’s alright. It’ll pass.”

“No. I’m a psychiatrist. Tell me.This is what I do for a living. It’ll be nice to talk to someone too. Alright, let’s start with the names. I’m Dr.Malhotra and I work at a high school, counselling students.”

I’m not gonna see him again anyway,  thought the boy.

“I’m Aryan.”

“And I study engineering in the national Institute of engineering.”

“I’ve heard that that’s a good college. That obviously means that you were smart enough to get selected there.” said the psych.

“Alright, clearly something’s bothering you and let’s get to that first.”

He took a pause, looked ahead and started telling his story.

“I came straight from college and it’s all still fresh in my mind. This probably was the saddest experience I ever had in my days at college. You should know I’m a pretty social guy, but sometimes very moody. I have a lot of friends who I hang out with and we’re pretty tight. We make a lot of fun at a lot of people and sometimes among ourselves. You can find my friends ranging from the meekest personality, to the most assertive one.”

He smirked a little. ” I might be one of the most assertive ones.”

“I’m not saying I like all of them all the time, nor do all of them like me all the time; But still, sometimes things happen and it makes you wonder whether they were your friends in the first place. Maybe I just hung out with them because we were in the same class and found a bunch of people who watched the same TV shows as I did. I’m with them since more than two years and I know them so well that I can tell when they’re going to prank me, or when they’re even thinking about doing something weird, or dangerous. This happens in our Whatsapp groups as well. It has become a routine, but it’s not boring.”

he took another pause, looked back and tears bulit up in his eyes.

“But I think I’ve been left behind !” and then he looked away again.

“Tell me more. About your friends. Why do you think that you’ve been left behind?” said the psych.

“There’s this guy called  Adheer in our group and he’s probably the most submissive guy ever. You can easily walk all over him and he’ll still talk to you. Everyone else knows this and picks on him for every single thing. That poor kid.”

“At first, I thought all the merry making about how dumb he was or about how his ideas were crappy were all just to irritate him. But then I found out they actually despised him because of his flawed personality. Ofcourse, he kept coming back to us no matter what we said to him.”

“Today, the entire group made plans to have lunch and I didn’t want to because I was saving money for something I was trying my hand at and they didn’t know about it. Even if they did know, I know beyond doubt that they would criticize it, or just find a million reasons why I shouldn’t do it. Worst of all, I know beyond doubt that this will be a topic of discussion among the friends when I’m not around and they’ll just laugh at how stupid I am to be doing what I’m doing.”

A hint of anger began to set on Aryan’s face and his nostrils flared up.

“I told two of them about the money problems I was having. One of them understood; the other began lecturing how I was supposed to spend my savings. I told him that I understood that his savings are spent by him to eat and drink, but my savings were for me to use for other things. All he could come up with was, ‘Dude, it’s your wish. Come, or don’t come’.”

“It hit me then! He thought that it was a privilege for me to hang out with them. They all just zoomed off on their bikes. I went along as well. I had to because the path was common for all of us for about a mile.  Usually we’d all ride together, but this time they left me behind. I heard someone mutter to a very close friend of mine saying, ‘He’s not coming, apparently’ and that “close” friend of mine didn’t care. He rode along with his new found close friend and left me behind too.”

“Then we reached the point where all of us had to take our own route. But this time none of them did because they were on their way to the restaurant. i thought I’d deviate and see if they noticed. None of them did! Everyone just went along. And bear in mind that they knew I was there! When I deviated, this other friend deviated with me. You know who it was?”

“I think I have a pretty good idea.” said the psych.

“It was the guy in our group who constantly kept coming back despite all the taunts and hate – Adheer. I was him! I became him. I stopped instantly and let Adheer pass. I waited there for a while processing what I was just experiencing. Would they call me? would they even notice?”

” I had a lot of friends. A couple of them faded along the way; only a handful remained. I thought these were the ones I was looking for. You know, the kind of friends you see in the TV show F.R.I.E.N.D.S? I had my gang! But little did I know how much I was truly alone.”

“There was this close friend of mine, who is there in the group I just told you about. We had a fallout and never really got along after that. Each thought it was the other’s fault. He was being condescending to me and I told him that and that how he should’t try so hard to beat me or anyone else so badly, turning everything into a competition. He disagreed! He said that everyone DID try to beat everyone! no one would think otherwise.”

“I always thought I was right when it came to that. But today, I found out that you could never survive if you didn’t prove yourself worthy. Even if you did, maintaining it was just as important. Otherwise, you’d be left behind.”

“Then, I called this other friend that I couldn’t spend a lot of time with, but was worthy talking to. I called her, only to know things were a bit rocky. We hung up. I just stood there, with my bike, thinking about how I was left behind and trying so hard to find a handful of the remaining handful friends I had left.”

A Vacation That Changed Everything ( PART 2 )

It was past midnight and there were a few people who were still up; playing random games and scaring the hell out of everyone for it was very dark.  I tried to sleep. But with Varun snoring, I think I spent my time trying to stop him from snoring!

While coming up the hill, to the “guesthouse”, everyone were tired and just kept to themselves. That’s when I noticed the star-filled sky. I had found tranquility in nature after a long time. It was like finding a lost part of yourself, but among the stars. You can’t have it; You can just glance at it and smile at it and be proud of where you are right now. No matter how insignificant the impact is that you’ve created in this world, that feeling you get under the stars is just pure magic.

I wanted to experience that once again. The sudden bad mood I was experiencing made me want to experience the beautiful side of nature. So I opened the door and faced the chilly winds racing against me. I had a torch in my hand and I switched it on. The torch did nothing more than illuminate the small circular patch I was pointing at. The rest was pitch black! With great courage, I stepped out, only to step on a poor, old dog which was resting on the doorstep! It barked it’s ass off and I, having gotten the others’ attention thought it would be better to go get some sleep.

So, I did.

I tried to shake off the surreal, bad mood I was stuck in and went back to bed.

*FAST FORWARD 4 HOURS*

It was about 4am and I woke up to Supreeth lying down right next to me. The chilly winds had taken it’s toll on everyone. Most of us woke up complaining about the extreme cold and the lack of enough sweaters. Despite all that, a few of us desperately wanted to watch the sunrise.

Watching the sunset the previous day had changed me. So, I wanted to see what the sunrise had in store for me. So, a few of us woke everyone up and convinced the people who had given up on the sunrise agenda to go on and watch the sunrise.

And so, we went on. With torches and mobile phone torches, we lit up the pathway and walked further up the hill we were on. My fear of heights was at its peak for I was trekking right at the edge of the hill! The chilly winds got colder and the path seemed to go on and on.

We finally reached the sunrise viewing spot and fortunately there weren’t any other tourists there, yet. The sun hadn’t risen, yet.

While we waited, the view of the clouds hurling towards us was spectacular! The chilly winds weren’t chilly anymore. The chilly winds actually was a perfect part of that view we were all witnessing. And the girls, as usual, started taking pictures, posing.

I was eagerly waiting for the sun to rise. I wanted to see what I would go through during those few moments. What promises I would make and how intense all those outbursts would be.

And then, at 6:45, we all stopped to see a red patch at the horizon and the scene fell dead silent!

“It’s rising” someone yelled behind me ( probably Sanjay 😛 ). I was at the edge, witnessing it.

Slowly, the red patch emerged, still at the horizon, revealing the Sun.  It wasn’t just a ball of fire anymore. It was a symbol. As I watched it emerge out of the horizon, all that I thought about the outbursts were all happening.

That overwhelming feeling of motivation and inspiration you feel when you watch a really good movie, when you listen to your mentor talk to you and make you feel more determined and secure about your life, when you talk to a friend and you feel like you can take on the world. I was feeling all that simultaneously.

I went to Vishnu and murmured something about entrepreneurship and about how we should pursue that path for we had it in us.

the ones standing are Vishnu and I, discussing about what I just mentioned.

More than I shared those few moments of the sunrise with my friends, I spent it with me. It’s funny how nature can be a good comforter and energizer more than a friend can ever hope to be. Although I spent most of my time with my friends later on, I just thought it would be logical to spend these few minutes with the Sun.

After a tonne of pictures taken,

we all HAD to head down, back to the guesthouse. It was time to pack up and leave the hill for it was time to hit the beach 😀

Frank Underwood – Your Evil Alter Ego

It’s time that I talked about this because it has been there in my mind for a while now.

House Of Cards!!

It’s a TV show on the politics that take place in Washington D.C. It’s about Frank Underwood, a lowly congressman who rips and kills the obstacles just so he can achieve his goal – To have power. And to have power, the only way for him is to be the President of the greatest country in the free world.

A lot of stuff is still hanging by the threads and could fall off any second and that just makes it more interesting.

Well, that isn’t the aspect that interested me. What interested me was the monologues Frank delivers throughout the show to US, the viewers.

He just randomly looks at the camera when there’s a monologue in his mind about a situation he’s in or when he’s talking to someone and he wants to mock them or tell us how grateful he is because of them. And those monologues can make you think twice and re-evaluate your entire point of view on human nature.

If you haven’t watched the show, watch it. It’s great! Me, being an Indian enjoyed watching American politics. Well, it’s actually more about how awesome and ruthless Frank is throughout the show, so that was more amazing.

To close this off, here’s a small list of monologues that Frank delivered in House Of Cards.

There’s no way to overpower a trickle of doubt than with a flood of naked truth.

#2
What a martyr craves more than anything is a sword to fall on. So you sharpen the blade, hold it at just the right angle and then, 3….2….1………!

#3
Friends make the worst enemies.

#4
For those of us climbing to the top of the food chain, there can be no mercy. There is but one rule – Hunt or be hunted!

#5
Money is the McMansion in Sarasota that starts falling apart after 10 years. Power is the old stone building that stands for centuries.

#6
A great man once said – Everything is about sex. Except sex. Sex is about power.

#7
What you have to understand about my people is that they are a noble people. Humility is their form of pride. It is their strength; it is their weakness. And if you can humble yourself before them they will do anything you ask.

#8
Shake with your right hand but hold a rock with your left.

#9
The road to power is paved with hypocrisy and casualties. Never regret.

When you’re fresh meat, kill and throw them something fresher.

A New Hope

It’s the first time the youth is excited about the 16th of May more than the 14th of February, in India.

The largest democracy in the world is about to change it’s leadership and install a new, better, capable one.

No, I’m not here to root for Narendra Modi. I’m just here to tell you what major changes India will see with Narendra Modi’s leadership.

And yes, the votes are still being counted. But, I shit you not, even 5 hours before the media announcement, it looks like Modi will beat the others by a mile. No! by hundred miles.

Let me tell you a little bit about Narendra Damodardas Modi and about why everyone wants this man to lead 1.2 billion people.

narendra-modi

He was born in a poor family who sold tea near a railway station. He had 5 other siblings. So you can imagine how hard that must have been for his family. He continued selling tea, going to school simultaneously. His teacher analysed his academic performance and believed that he never had a proper future in the academic field, but also added that he had exceptional debating skills and oratory instincts. That is clearly reflected in all of his speeches he has delivered.

After entering the Indian politics scene, he built and improvised multiple strategies for the Gujarat state elections in ’95 and ’98. He was a major contender in the last general elections ( this one is also a general election ). And like any other successful politician, he has a few ghosts following him. He is rumored to be one of the main people responsible for the genocide of muslims in Gujarat.

Again, they were just rumors which conveniently gained a voice at the right time.

Apart from that one rumor, the positive signs of him being “the one” for the country are numerous.

He was chief minister of Gujarat for over 10 years now and the changes which took place in the state can’t even be imagined. Google it!

Gujarat faced a deadly earthquake in 2001 and almost everything was in ruins. The economy especially. Modi turned that scenario and it’s one of the states which is leading in economic growth and general development.

He has proven himself for more than 20 years and that’s gotten the people’s attention. It made the people want him to lead the country because he proved to be more than just capable.

So, what changes will India see with Modi as the prime minister?

Well, even before the election results are announced, Modi’s imminent win has had a direct result on the dollar price. I won’t go into much details on how it made a difference. But the dollar dipped down to 59 rupees.

India can now hope to be a place of wide, smooth roads, electrified villages, rising incomes and brand-name foreign investment. He pledged to build bullet trains, hydroelectric power plants, manufacturing hubs and dozens of cities, enabling India to rival China, the economic powerhouse next door. A lover of technology, Modi even addressed several rallies as a holographic image. Now, that is how you remain in people’s minds!

He made similar promises when he became the chief minister of Gujarat and he delivered.

I started writing this post about 24 hours ago, hoping to gather enough information and during this time, Modi won the general elections and he is now the prime minister of India, leading the world’s largest democracy.

The Indian youth hated politics because corruption prevailed, but after Modi delivered his victory speech, everyone went gaga over him and were actually inspired.

If you could spare a while, here’s his victory speech.

Technology In This Generation

I watched a video on YouTube about technology and social media, two weeks ago. A week later, it became viral.

So, I rewatched the video and started thinking about the message conveyed by it.
After I did, I posted the link on one of my whatsapp groups and that sparked a debate among us.
The entire group was spilt in two –
Those who agreed with the video and those who didn’t.
I was with the people who argued FOR the video’s message because I believed that technology was being overused and social media being used for socializing was becoming lesser.

Here’s the link to the video.

Do me a favor.
Watch it. Come back here. Let’s all have a debate in the comments section.

UPDATE – The link which I posted was a mobile link and didn’t seem to open on desktops. if you guys figured that, then cool. Otherwise, I’ve updated the link. Check it out.
