What do you want to do?

There are a series of tests starting from today. The results of which assign a value to me and my self worth is determined by that by the society.
What if my strengths lie elsewhere?
Then these results and scores shouldn’t matter to me or to the society.
It’s nothing more than a distraction; tasks which consume time, which otherwise could be used to do something productive.

Sadly, the short film will be stalled by these tests because the other people involved in the movie are also studying for these tests.
Another sad thing is that dropping out is not that easy here in India. The society plays a MAJOR role. I know it really shouldn’t matter, but the parents come into picture and the pressure just builds and smothers you; it eventually shuts you up, leaving you with no choice but to suck up to whatever they want you to do.
The engineering course is not what I thought it would be. I can only sulk about it.
In the end, there is no option to quit.

The short story.

If you’d read my earlier posts, I’d mentioned something about turning a prologue into a short story which had a cliffhanger because it was a prologue earlier 😛       So, here it is. Sit back and have fun.

This is called The Untold.

The NH-44 had never been more lonely. A black mercedes which stood still by the side of the road made it almost impossible to spot in the cold dark night. The mercedes , facing South indicated that it was heading towards the end of the highway: Bangalore, from the North. But strangely, the car was on the wrong side of the road.
The two people in the car sat absolutely still.
Jayan woke up with a terrible headache and found himself infront of the steering wheel. His friend who was initially driving the mercedes was gone. It was pitch black in-front of him. The pain, along with his memory started coming back in waves. He was used to physical pain, but the memory of what had happened before he lost consciousness, didn’t make sense at all. He remembered his wife and him get into his friend’s mercedes.
“They’re coming” his friend whispered to Jayan. Dealing with pressure and remaining calm during the most dangerous situation was something that Jayan was taught. But this time, the stakes were too high and the scenario was entirely different than the usual.
“People like us are not meant to give into emotions. If we do, then we just give the enemy a free tip, telling them exactly how to take us down” he remembered the Director of his task force scream those words to him.
Jayan looked at his friend with fear and then at his wife, Priyanka. “Don’t worry, babe. I promise I won’t let anything happen to you or Shona” he said to Priyanka.
Priyanka could barely speak. She was trembling with fear and tears streamed down her face. She came close to him and hugged him. Jayan put his arm around her. “Its my job to protect you and our daughter. So, there’s nothing to be scared of. You know that, right?” said Jayan with a reassuring smile.
“I can’t help it Jayan. I’m just scared. Even if we don’t make it through the night, just make sure that Shona will always be safe.” said Priyanka with lots of gasps .
“Don’t say that. We’ll get to Bangalore firsthand, then I’ll fix everything. Just make sure you get some rest now.”
The mercedes sped towards NH-44 from a small hotel in Hyderabad. Jayan’s friend, Akash promised them that he’d take them home safely. He was doing a good job until Jayan received a mysterious call. Someone on the other line spoke first for 2 minutes. Akash saw Jayan’s expression change drastically on the rear-view mirror and then he knew exactly what to do.
The next few minutes would change the fate of a family and which would set a chain reaction of events which would end after many years.
Akash pulled over by the side of the highway. The time of dusk was just about to get over and darkness was just about to set in. “Perfect” whispered Akash to himself and then he removed a tumbler like device from his bagpack.
“What happened?” said Jayan after he had just disconnected the mysterious call.
“Gotta go when you gotta go” said Akash and smirked at Jayan.
“Make it fast. I just received some strange information which could be the missing puzzle piece”
“I’ll just take a minute.” said Akash and got out of the car along with the tumbler like device.
He then twisted the knob of the device and then pushed it in. The device made a light beep sound. He placed the device in the car and closed the door and locked it with his key.
“Now….for tonight’s entertainment, we have……….”
A cloud of smoke started to fill the car. Jayan saw Akash standing outside the car.
That was the last thing he remembered.

Now, the car wasn’t where it was before and Aryan was at the steering wheel. It seemed as if he had driven the car from the previous spot. The pain was wearing away now. He tried to wake Priyanka, but it seemed as if the smoke really took a toll on her.
He brought his right hand to her shoulder to give a slight jerk and that when he felt it. A wave of shock passed through Jayan. He definitely knew he was holding a revolver. He hadn’t even thought about his revolver during the time in the car at all.
He placed the revolver next to him and screamed at Priyanka, telling her to wake up and was also giving her mild jerks.
Jayan saw a truck at a distance which was coming towards the car and when the light flashed at him, he saw what had happened.
He saw a bullethole on Priyanka’s right temple. Blood was splattered everywhere. His friend had had him played all along.
The truck driver advanced towards the car slowly and saw what was going on in the car and then stopped his truck. His basic instinct told him to call the police and he did just what his instincts told him.
Jayan saw the truck stop a few yards from the car. He instantly knew what was going to happen next. Unless……….!
He knew there was no point in trying to start the engine. His friend was smart enough to empty the fuel after the show of his betrayal.
Jayan started to break down. He turned towards Priyanka, “I’m sorry sweetheart. I love you.” Jayan stammered.
He tucked his revolver between his waist belt and got out of the car and went behind it. He examined the vast land beside the highway. He remembered his training. There was no other choice. He made a run towards the open field.

The truck driver sat inside his truck and watched a man who was running away from the highway and placed a call immediately.
“It’s done. I hope the papers and the money are ready.” he said with a deep tone and disconnected the call.
Far from the highway now, Jayan removed his web-camera and started recording while running.
“Honey, this is your dad Jayan. You’re too young to understand all this now but when you grow up you’ll know exactly what happened and you will finish this fight for me and your mother. I’m responsible for the circumstances in your future life. I was betrayed and played with all this time and when they involved your mother, things changed. You will find the missing piece. I know you will. Find the clock and Look closely. I will always love you.”

The misfits and the rebels.

Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes, the ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. But the one thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things. They push the human race forward. While some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius; because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.

The writing journey begins.

Poetry; Such a beautiful way to express what you feel and a brilliant way to showcase your creativity.

William Wordsworth, Walter Whitman, Robert Frost, etc., made their mark on this world by writing beautiful poetry for themselves and for humans in general, teaching us what to do and how to do anything we want.

The prospect of telling people about so many things in just a couple of lines got me interested. I started writing poems which were great but not beautiful. Only I could understand what they meant. So this whole thing stalled for a while; while I was plotting my next poem.

In the meantime, I never failed to read novels; Dan Brown’s especially. I read  “The Da Vinci Code” and was so blown away by it. Brown made me picture the ENTIRE plot and every sentence that the plot ran like a Christopher Nolan  movie in my head. My skills in poetry weren’t that good, so why not try my hand at writing short stories, or, or a NOVEL??!!

So there I was; thinking about this “novel” I wanted to write despite having absolutely no experience in writing books or any story for that matter. I came up with a story; started writing; wrote the prologue, chapter 1, chapter 2, chapter 3,………,chapter 50.

I’d written about 250 pages in a month’s time. I wanted to read what I’d written just to get a reader’s perspective, so I began reading my work.

I shit you not; after reading the whole thing, it seemed like it was a sequel of mission impossible : ghost protocol.

I didn’t wanna write that!!!!!

The only thing that didn’t seem like mission impossible was the prologue. So I took the prologue and made a short story out of it. It had a major cliffhanger because….well, it was a prologue before :\

And after a couple of months, I came across this article on wiki which told me about this secret society in India – The nine unknown men of Ashoka. I was fascinated by this society because of the work they did and the topics which are rumored to be practiced.

I came up with another story. This time, I made sure it was nothing like mission impossible xD

Ofcourse, this is going to take a while because of all the things I’m doing at once. I hope I make it, eventually 🙂

The musical journey begins.

I started singing during my 9th grade in this band called Dethfyre. You won’t here about it because we broke up a couple of days after that performance.

But,  ever since then I’ve wanted to continue the musical journey. I met other interested musicians and got them to commit. We were primarily into metal and we called ourselves “Chaotic Mantra”. We played in a couple of shows and there were other bands who found my gutterals very unique and asked if I could be their bands’ session vocalist. I happily agreed; not knowing what the band members of chaotic mantra would feel. So, I made it a point to let them know about it.

I dont know if it was a “tit for tat” thing, but the members of chaotic mantra found a new guy and started a band of their own and they were pretty popular at the time. They’ve stopped now for God knows what reason.

Ever since then I’ve been on the hunt for a new line-up. I started listening to a lot of other bands. My interest in the genres matured and I was more into indie, rock and post-rock stuff. Stuff like Godspeed you! black emperor, Explosions in the sky, Pink floyd, Shpongle, etc.,

There was another band I was involved with. This was a college band. It wasn’t working out.  BUT……….

two others of that college band wanted to work with me and with the help of another guitarist, we formed a band called “Behind Closed Eyelids” dedicated to post-rock and experimental post-rock.

This time, it looks permanent and well established 🙂

The filming journey begins.

You’ve all heard of Christopher Nolan. Yes, the one who directed the dark Knight trilogy, inception and the prestige to begin with. The way he makes every single movie and the actors he picks are all ingenuous.
Batman was just a bunch of comic books I read when I was a kid, but after watching Nolan’s dark Knight movies, I looked at batman as a liberator despite being an adult.
Nolan defined each character in every single one of his movies perfectly.

Until now, I had been an avid fan of entrepreneurship and starting a tech business or any business which had the potential to grow.

I still do. But, the field has changed.
I don’t know if it’s childish to say this, but Nolan inspired me to make movies which tell a different kind of story.

This is when I came up with a story that would make the audience go “huh? wait a minute!!!”. This is when both my worlds collided. Tv shows/movies and business. The business of movies.

I’m off to make a short movie based on that story I mentioned earlier despite the academic obstacles which I’ll have to face.
Follow me on my journey to know more for I’ll be posting about the progress 🙂
